Light to moderate rain lashed Shimla and several other parts of Himachal Pradesh today, bringing relief from the heat and signalling the onset of an extended wet spell. According to the Meteorological Department, Shimla recorded the highest rainfall at 32.8 mm, followed by Sundernagar with 19.6 mm, Solan 6 mm and Manali 4 mm.
The department has forecast continued precipitation across various parts of the state over the next six days, till June 10. Weather activity is expected to intensify over the next two days, prompting the issuance of an orange alert for hailstorms, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in Mandi, Kullu, Shimla and Sirmaur districts for tomorrow.
A yellow alert has been issued for Chamba, Kangra and Solan districts for the same period. On June 6, Chamba, Kangra and Kullu are likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds under a yellow alert.
While maximum temperatures remain near normal at present, sustained rainfall over the coming days is expected to bring them down further.
