Wildfire scorches Peak District as helicopters tackle huge blaze in heatwave

  • A significant wildfire erupted in the Peak District amidst a record-breaking heatwave, with drone footage capturing intense flames and thick smoke.
  • The blaze originated around 10pm on Wednesday, 24 June, at Tintwistle Moor, subsequently spreading through woodland and grassland near Glossop and Tameside.
  • Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DRFS) deployed six fire crews, a water carrier, and a welfare unit to the scene on Thursday, 25 June.
  • The fire impacted an area of 400 square metres of land before being successfully contained by firefighters on Friday, 26 June.
  • Crews are currently damping down and monitoring for hot spots, with specialist vehicles remaining on site to ensure the situation is stable.
