Geely In Discussions To Launch Lynk & Co Vehicles In Indonesia

News just in from across the ‘water’ mentions Geely Auto Indonesia is considering introducing the Lynk & Co automotive brand in the Indonesian market. This comes as a surprise as Lynk & Co’s arrival in Malaysia has been teased for the past year (because Geely is a Proton Cars partner) but with no firm date.

At present, Geely Auto Group offers two of its Chinese auto brands in Indonesia (just like with Malaysia) which is Geely itself and electric car brand Zeekr. Similar to Zeekr (which acquired Lynk & Co recently), Lynk & Co would target the premium segment with environmentally friendly vehicles (hybrids like the ’10’). This brand is a joint venture between Geely Auto Group and the Swedish automotive manufacturer Volvo.

However, Lynk & Co’s current vehicle lineup is not available in right-hand-drive (RHD) configuration and a check online confirms plans to introduce right hand drive versions, but not so soon. Then again, China is known for adapting very quickly to market needs and a right hand drive Lynk & Co can be in ASEAN nations before Christmas 2026.

“Currently, Lynk & Co is synonymous with all left-hand drive,” said Constantinus Herliljoso, Sales and Channel Development Director of Geely Auto Indonesia, in Mandalika, Lombok.

He further explained that Lynk & Co is one of several brands under the Geely Auto Group umbrella, adding that multiple brands within the group could be introduced to the Indonesian market, depending on market demand. According to Constantinus, the premium vehicle segment in Indonesia remains a potential market for manufacturers.

“In fact, in the future, Lynk & Co will also be developed to have a right-hand-drive version,” said Constantinus.

He further added that Geely Auto Indonesia will continue to evaluate and assess brands that are suitable for the domestic market, particularly those positioned in the premium segment.

“Geely has a portfolio of brands. We will evaluate them gradually, depending on market readiness and developments in Indonesia,” Constantinus said.
