Netflix just released the complex finale of The Trunk and left fans wondering whether there will be a season 2 of the K-drama or not. Here’s everything we know about a possible season 2 of the psychological romance thriller The Trunk.
A Kim Kyu-tae directorial, the show premiered on 29 November 2024 to positive reviews by fans and critics alike. Applauded for its impressive story, direction, acting and cinematography, the show stars Gong Yoo and Seo Hyun-jin in leading roles.
Talking about her character Noh In-ji in the series, Seo shared in a press conference, “The series is something that you can’t grasp at one glance. Like the emotions portrayed, it’s not so explicit. That’s what I really liked about this show. You have to read the room. You have to read between the lines, and that means I have more freedom of expression.”
Written by Park Eun-young, the story follows protagonist Jeong-won, who reluctantly marries In-ji, a wife-for-hire. While Jeong-won is still struggling to get over his ex-wife, In-ji starts developing feelings for him. What happens when secrets from her past threaten her newfound peace?
What happens in the finale of The Trunk?
The ending of the K-drama unravels the truth behind the murder of Tae-seong. Viewers discover that on the day of his death, Tae-seong called In-ji and threatened to kill Jeong-won. However, she manipulated him to meet her once and decided to kill him herself.
When they eventually met, Tae-seong attacked her when she couldn’t help him open the trunk containing her contract marriage papers. Jeong-won, meanwhile, located In-ji and brutally injured Tae-seong. When In-ji shot Tae-seong in the back, she ended up missing it and Tae-seong flees the place. Later, Ji-o found him and as per NM CEO’s orders, stabbed him to death.
In the final moments of the show, Jeong-won and In-ji annulled their contractual marriage and moved on with their lives. But when fate brought them together once again in a random Seoul street, both Jeong-won and In-ji looked forward to their next chance encounter, and a possible second chance at their relationship.
Could there be a season 2 of The Trunk?
So far, there is no official news of The Trunk season 2 being in the works.
Fans, on the other hand, are hopeful that the makers might announce a second instalment to delve deeper into the relationship of In-ji and Jeong-won. However, The Trunk is released on Netflix as a limited series, which further lessens the possibility of a season 2.
