Netflix has not officially announced a season 2 for the 2026 K-drama The WONDERfools.
However, the series finale intentionally leaves several questions unresolved, particularly surrounding Ha Won-do’s survival and the long-term consequences of the Wunderkinder experiments.
Meanwhile, Director Yoo In-shik has also hinted at the possibility of expanding the universe further through future stories, spin-offs and connected projects.
What happens in the finale of the K-drama The WONDERfools?
In the finale of the Korean drama, Chae-ni, Un-jeong, Ro-bin, and Gyeong-un discover that Ha Won-do plans to spread experimental chemicals across Haeseong City on New Year’s Eve in order to create more test subjects capable of producing another “eternal heart.” As chaos erupts across the city, Ju-ran brainwashes civilians and even temporarily manipulates Un-jeong into turning against Chae-ni.
Eventually, Un-jeong realises his mistake and rejoins Chae-ni and the team. As midnight approaches, the group discovers a massive airborne bomb filled with the experimental substance. Using his super strength, Ro-bin launches Chae-ni and Gyeong-un toward the weapon, allowing Chae-ni to teleport the bomb far away moments before it explodes and destroys the city.
Although Chae-ni survives, she becomes stranded miles away and only returns to Haeseong weeks later, reuniting emotionally with Un-jeong, Ro-bin, Gyeong-un and her grandmother. Un-jeong also finally reunites with his long-lost mother, while the four heroes quietly return to ordinary life.
However, the final scene reveals that Ha Won-do is still alive. As his wounds begin to heal beneath the rubble, the series hints that the threat of the Wunderkinder Project may not truly be over.
