Under Salt Marsh, the latest Sky Original crime thriller drama, keeps audiences guessing until the very end. But now that the initial shock of discovering the identity of Nessa and Cefin’s murderer is starting to wear off, viewers can’t help but wonder whether the show is set to return for another instalment. So, is season 2 of Under Salt Marsh on the cards? Let’s find out.
Created by Claire Oakley, the six-episode series has become Sky’s strongest original drama launch since The Day of the Jackal (2024–). In fact, according to an official statement released by Sky Group, the first episode of Under Salt Marsh drew a staggering 1.8 million viewers within the first seven days of its premiere.
The crime thriller drama follows former detective-turned-teacher Jackie Ellis (played by Kelly Reilly) and detective Eric Bull (played by Rafe Spall) as they team up to solve the shocking murder of Cefin Hill (played by Jack Thomas-Humphreys), a young boy living in the Welsh village of Morfa Halen.
As they dig for clues, they’re reminded of a cold case that wrecked their lives not only professionally, but personally as well: the eerily similar murder of Jackie’s niece, Nessa Taman (played by Amara Atwal). But with a raging storm threatening to destroy not just their crime scene but the town itself, Jackie and Eric are forced to get to the bottom of the mystery before the ocean swallows them whole.
Will there be a season 2 of Under Salt Marsh?
So far, there has been no official news about Under Salt Marsh being renewed for season 2.
But fans of this gripping whodunnit shouldn’t lose hope just yet. When asked about the possibility of another instalment in an interview, Claire Oakley said, “We’re exploring what a second season might look like. We’re looking at different options of how we could take it forward, if it got commissioned.”
How does Under Salt Marsh end?

Under Salt Marsh ends with Jackie and Eric discovering that it wasn’t Jackie’s boyfriend Dylan Rees (played by Harry Lawtey), but her brother-in-law Mac Jones (played by Brian Gleeson) who murdered Nessa and Cefin in cold blood.
Although Mac tries to evade the law and the punishment that awaits him by attempting to take his own life, Jackie and Eric don’t let it happen. The finale ends with Mac in police custody, while the people of Morfa Halen try to get back on their feet after a storm that nearly wiped them out.
