Wisma Putra said the Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta remains in contact with the Indonesian authorities to verify the passenger information and obtain further developments.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Foreign Ministry has not received any information indicating that Malaysians are involved in the Virgo Transport 8 passenger ship incident in Indonesia’s Java Sea.
The ministry widely known as Wisma Putra said it is monitoring reports concerning the passenger ship and is in contact with the relevant Indonesian authorities to obtain the official passenger manifest and further verified information regarding the incident.
“At this preliminary stage, the ministry has not received any information indicating that Malaysian nationals are involved in the incident,” it said in a statement Sunday.

Earlier, a report citing Indonesian authorities said that 103 of the 243 people aboard the Virgo Transport 8 passenger ship, which had gone missing in the Java Sea early Sunday morning, had been evacuated, with one person reported dead.
Wisma Putra also advised Malaysians residing in or travelling to Indonesia to comply with instructions issued by the local authorities.
“Malaysians are also encouraged to register and keep their contact details updated through the e-Konsular portal at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my to facilitate communication and consular assistance where necessary,” it said.
