
The Municipal Corporation has collected revenue worth Rs 7.57 crore between April 1 and June 30 — approximately 78 per cent more than the Rs 4.26 crore collected during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
The civic body raked in Rs 5.92 crore from property tax, Rs 36 lakh from fire tax and Rs 1.29 crore from garbage collection charges.
Notably, several initiatives had been undertaken to strengthen tax collection, including regular reviews, special recovery drives, action against major defaulters and public awareness campaigns to encourage timely payments.
Initial notices were issued to 752 property owners with outstanding dues exceeding Rs 2 lakh. Of these, 47 property owners have already cleared their dues, while second notices will soon be issued to the remaining 705 defaulters.
The civic body aims to promote voluntary tax compliance while ensuring the timely recovery of all outstanding dues.
The MC’s self-certification campaign has received an encouraging response from residents. Of the 104,631 properties, the self-certification process has been completed for 44,002, accounting for 42.05 per cent.
The civic body had collected a total revenue of Rs 14.72 crore during the previous financial year. Expressing confidence over the encouraging performance in the first quarter of the current financial year, officials said the corporation was well positioned to set new benchmarks in revenue collection in the months ahead.
