Madhavi Sree Jayakumar, 22, born in Malacca with six credits in SPM, was on the verge of committing suicide as she did not get her identity card. She makes the statement in a TikTok video on her predicament of trying to get her Mykad for years.

Madhavi applied for an identity card at the National Registration Department (NRD) about eight years ago as an orphan.

Without her Mykad, Madhavi has several problems, and they are:

  • Cannot open a bank account
  • Cannot get a permanent job
  • Cannot further her studies
  • Not entitled to any government facilities and amenities
  • Without documentation, one cannot get married

She is jobless and has no permanent job as she does not have an identity card. In a video by Indian media Makkal Osai Daily, she appeals for help. In the introduction of the video, she says she has been contemplating suicide.

Madhavi’s plight was first exposed by Makkal Osai Daily reporter R. Malini, who made a video news report on the pathetic orphan.

It is learnt that former Malacca Exco Datuk R. Perumal and current Exco P. Shanmugam are trying to get the government and NRD's help to get her Mykad.

Born in 2002 at the Putera Hospital, Malacca, unknown mum and father, Raman, who has passed away, was adopted by his father’s brother, Jayakumar, who has also passed away.

Madhavi completed primary school at Kubu Tamil School and secondary schooling at Sekolah Menengah Durian Daun. With six credits, she gained entry to Form Six but had to drop out because of personal problems and could not complete her assignment.

Without getting her identity card was also a stumbling block in continuing her studies.

With the help of an NGO and NRD, Madhavi got her birth certificate but has yet to receive her Mykad.

Her adoptive parents legally adopted her through the welfare department, and she received a brown birth (adoption) certificate. Her name was changed to Madhavi Sree A/P Jayakumar.

Madhavi has personally called the Home Ministry and NRD and has been told to wait as her application is being processed. She prays her application will be approved.
