Figuring out the best web hosting service for your needs can feel like a confusing process, but both Wix and Hostinger do a great job of making it beginner-friendly while still providing good-looking results.
Hostinger is a full web hosting solution with the option to upgrade to a dedicated server or VPS for the most control possible, while Wix is more focused on helping you build your site via its interface. It’ll still let you upload your own files though.
To provide you with insight into which is the best option for you, I’ve spent significant time with both web hosting services. Here’s how I got on.

How I tested
For testing purposes, I spent 10 days using Hostinger and Wix. In the past, I’ve used both services for different needs but I treated this as a new excursion by signing up for accounts and seeing what was involved. I focused on Hostinger’s website builder given Wix’s specialism is in website building, but I also looked at other services that the two companies provide.

Wix focuses on making the website building process accessible to all. It uses a drag and drop approach so you don’t need to be experienced in website design in any way. Such simplicity costs a little more than standard web hosting, but you get useful extras like a marketing suite and easy collaboration tools which make it better value for money. There are also eCommerce tools depending on the plan you sign up for.

Hostinger
Hostinger is the one-stop shop for many of your web hosting needs. It’s easy enough to sign up for web hosting but also a VPS server, dedicated server, managed hosting for WordPress, a website builder, and a bunch more. It even allows for self-hosted AI and automation like n8n and OpenClaw. It all comes at a reasonable price and it’s fairly accessible, even if you lack strong technical knowledge.

1. Wix vs Hostinger: Pricing and plans
Wix
Pros: Free trial is good for trying it out
Cons: Costs more long term
Hostinger
Pros: Longer plans are very cheap; AI website creation bundled in with hosting
Cons: Can get expensive for short-term plans
Wix offers a free trial, but you ultimately need to pay up in the long term. While it is more expensive than Hostinger, it’s seen as a dedicated solution for anyone who wants a website builder first and foremost over a web hosting service that adds on website building components.
The Wix Light plan costs £9 per month and offers 2GB of storage space, and a free domain for one year. There’s also the Core package, which increases storage to 50GB and provides basic marketing and ecommerce tools as well as a free domain. That costs £16, while there’s the more premium Business plan for £25 per month, which bumps storage up to 100GB among other things.
I found that after 24 hours of using the Wix free trial, I was emailed an offer for 50 per cent off the Core, Business, and Business Elite plans, but this may just be a temporary offer so I’d suggest you don’t rely on it.
There are a few different ways to access Hostinger’s website building capabilities. There’s the direct Horizons route, which costs £5.99 per month (£71.88 for the first year). This enables you to create one website and provides 30 AI credits per month, but doesn’t come with a free domain. However, I found the better deal is to sign up to the Business web hosting plan. That costs £4.49 per month (£53.88 a year), enables you to create up to 50 websites, provides 30 AI credits per month, and includes a free domain for the year. It also has 50GB of NVMe storage and you can use it like regular web hosting.
2. Wix vs Hostinger: Features
Wix
- Pros: More beginner-friendly; better security
- Cons: Lacks some web hosting basics; too much AI for some
Hostinger
- Pros: More web hosting-focused; more user control; effective AI website builder
- Cons: AI-built websites require some tailoring
Both Hostinger and Wix offer fairly welcoming interfaces, although Hostinger leans a little more on the web hosting side of things than Wix, which hones its website builder to an incredible degree. Wix truly doesn’t require any technical knowhow to create a website here. Starting out is a matter of chatting to AI about your vision and in no time, an idea is suggested along with apps that may help you, such as video content, a bookings system, or an online store. Everything is tailored towards your specific needs.
On the other hand, that means Wix lacks some web hosting basics like a file manager to upload your website directly. You also can’t deploy Node.js web apps like with Hostinger. That’s because it isn’t strictly necessary but it can be useful if you’re keen to expand your knowledge. Both Hostinger and Wix provide you with a free domain for a year when you commit to a year or longer plan, and both have free SSL too. Wix is pretty good at spotting any security concerns because it’s so tightly locked down, but Hostinger is more likely to boast about such functionality.
Dive into Hostinger’s control panel and Horizons is the service you’re looking for. Described as vibe coding, which is effectively a fun way of describing prompt-driven design, Horizons is the most AI-focused website builder and the closest to what Wix offers. There’s also the Hostinger website builder which is worth playing around with.
Both services ask for you to simply describe your vision and what your intention is for your site. In relatively little time, they create something that is usually pretty close to your idea. I was impressed with the results.
Even if you create a WordPress-based blog via Hostinger, you can use AI prompts to help you design the site rather than need to do anything independently. That’s why I preferred signing up to its web hosting plan rather than Horizons specifically as it provides more flexibility.
Effectively, you’re getting a very different approach from both services, but Wix and Hostinger will lead to excellent websites. It’s all down to how you want to make that site and how much control you want over things going on in the background.
3. Wix vs Hostinger: Ease of use
Wix
- Pros: AI features heavily for ease of use
- Cons: Fairly restrictive compared to conventional web hosting
Hostinger
- Pros: Simple to use custom control panel; quick to set up site
- Cons: Could be more attractive visually; more text-heavy than visual
Both Wix and Hostinger take moments to sign up to. Just pick the package you want and you could potentially have a site set up within about 10 minutes. Obviously, it’s better to spend some time on refining the design and layout, but it’s a good indication of how simple both are to use.
AI is deeply ingrained in Wix although you’re not dependent on it. If you’d prefer Wix’s AI to create the actual blog posts for you, you can do so by entering some prompts, but you can also simply use its SEO tools to refine your own creations. Wix even uses AI insights when creating a domain name. Hostinger is a little more hands-off there, as it won’t create actual content.
Hostinger uses its own custom hPanel rather than the cPanel you see on other web hosting services, while Wix feels more like a very well designed version of WordPress with very logical ways of doing things. Both offer a to-do list so you don’t forget any essentials. However, it’s Wix that is even simpler, as it has a dashboard tailored to your specific needs along with a quick actions panel which can quickly help you create a blog post, set up marketing campaigns, use business tools, and much more.
Both services are simple to use but Wix takes simplicity to a whole new level, feeling like something that anyone could figure out, even with limited technical knowledge. However, Hostinger offers more depth if you want to get more involved in the web hosting side of things – and there’s a lot more functionality here too.
4. Wix vs Hostinger: Support
Wix
- Pros: Helpful AI bot; live chat; can speak to someone on the phone
- Cons: Tutorials are focused more on SEO than site building
Hostinger
- Pros: AI assistance available via WhatsApp; real support agents available; helpful AI bot
- Cons: No phone support
Wix and Hostinger focus on AI bots as the first place to go if you have a query. Wix’s AI bot is called Aria and it handles everything from customising your dashboard to billing queries and beyond. It also helps you with domain issues such as needing to buy one or fixing an issue with one that is connected yet not working. If you need to talk to a person, you can either start a live chat via the same dialog box or you can request a callback later in the day. Hostinger doesn’t offer phone support so this could be a big plus for Wix, if that matters to you. I generally prefer live chat but variety is always a plus.
Hostinger’s AI bot is called Kodee, and it’s pretty helpful. With full web hosting, you’ll likely have more queries than with Wix, and Kodee solves things quickly. Hostinger also provides an extensive knowledge base that features both text and video-based tutorials. If you do need to talk to a real person, you can always ask Kodee to transfer you to someone.
For much of my time using Wix, I found I had fewer queries than using Hostinger simply because its system is so locked down.
Should you get Wix or Hostinger?
Knowing what you want from your web hosting service or website builder is key here. If you have no experience coding websites and you have no need to upload files via FTP, Wix will delight you. It makes website design very accessible with its AI features adding to that sentiment. I can’t think of anyone who would struggle to build something with Wix or be intimidated, but those who want a bit more control may find themselves switching off AI tools left, right, and centre.
Hostinger is a fantastic web hosting company that also has some great website builder options. Hostinger Horizons is easy to get to grips with and works very well. That’s also the case with its standard website builder and even its WordPress sites. However, you’ll still see what’s going on in the background and you might wish you could drag and drop elements. This is where Wix is a tad superior.
So it really does come down to what you prefer. I like the flexibility of Hostinger but when it comes to design work, I don’t have the eye for it, which makes Wix very tempting for any business proposition. It truly comes down to thinking honestly about how much assistance you need and going from there.
How Wix and Hostinger were tested
While using Hostinger and Wix, I always kept certain things in mind during every moment I used them. Here’s the criteria that I considered while testing them:
- Ease of use: You can have the most powerful features in the world but if you can’t figure them out easily, what’s the point? I checked that both Wix and Hostinger were simple to use or at least simple to figure out. That meant signing up and creating a basic site, seeing the processes involved, and looking to see how easy it was to make any changes or tweaks. I also checked how easy it was to cancel a plan.
- Features: I looked at the features of both web hosting services and checked that all the essentials were there, and hopefully a few useful extras too. I compared these to competitors but also simply wanted to check that everything I needed to set up and launch a website were available through Wix and Hostinger.
- Value for money: I looked at pricing plans, compared potential discounts, and evaluated if Wix and Hostinger were worth the money. Neither needed to be the cheapest option available but they needed to be worth the money. I also looked at any potential extras that might increase the monthly cost.
- Performance: I checked to see how quickly each of the hosting services performed. That meant how quickly I could add websites, make changes, and simply load their respective dashboards. It also meant seeing how quickly a completed website loaded for others online.
