Woman almost flattened by speeding car after it mounts sidewalk

A woman walking down the street was almost hit by a car as it mounted the sidewalk and sped towards her.

Surveillance footage from 9 June shows the woman leaving Hallowell City Hall in Maine, descending the steps before turning onto Winthorp Street.

A red Ford Mustang suddenly appears, hitting a streetlight as it plows towards the woman. According to city officials, the vehicle missed the woman, a code enforcement officer, by mere inches.

The out-of-control vehicle continued driving down the street, narrowly missing pedestrians and other vehicles, before coming to a stop. No injuries were reported.

Officials said the sudden acceleration was due to a floor mat that had become lodged against the accelerator pedal.
