When it comes to blind dates, we all know they can be nerve-wracking.

But there are certain unspoken rules, like not bringing your entire extended family along! Well, apparently someone missed the memo.

Translation: Hi fam, thank you everyone for supporting my recent blind date. Because the guy said he will be paying the bills, not sure which of us made a story out of it, saying that the guy must be rich and encouraging everyone to eat more, so that we can test how generous he is, and now it has become an awkward situation. I am the biggest victim in this story. Because it has way exceeded what I can afford.

Enter Liu, hailing from Zhejiang, China, who was introduced to Zhang by a matchmaker in October 2020.

Wanting to impress, Liu carefully selected a high-end restaurant and generously offered to cover the expenses. Little did he know what awaited him.

Imagine his astonishment when Zhang arrived with not just a plus-one, but 23 additional relatives! They took over two private rooms, leaving Liu isolated and speechless. Talk about an unconventional blind date.

Translation: This is the transaction bill from the guy. The total of the bill is 19800 yuan, the guy only pays for the two tables in our room, 4398 yuan. There are 23 of us in total, I hoped everyone can understand. Sis, you asked us to go, I didn't ask for anything, just a meal. I don't smoke and I don't drink, you know that.

Despite the challenging circumstances, Liu tried to see the silver lining, considering it an opportunity to meet Zhang's family. Little did he anticipate the shocking revelation awaiting him during a restroom break.

Curiosity got the better of him, and he discreetly inquired about the bill. The numbers left him dumbfounded - a mind-boggling RM12,825.49 (19800 yuan)!

The jaw-dropping cost was attributed to the extravagant alcohol and cigarette haul amassed by Zhang's entourage.

In a swift move, Liu seized the perfect moment to make his escape. Luckily, his familiarity with the restaurant spared him from any questions.

Meanwhile, Zhang's relatives reluctantly settled the colossal bill. But the real drama had only just begun.

Zhang insisted on splitting the expenses evenly, while Liu was willing to contribute a more modest RM2848.81 (4398 yuan). The disagreement escalated to a legal battle, with Zhang's infuriated relatives seeking justice in court.

Thankfully, justice prevailed. The court ruled that Liu would only be accountable for his and Zhang's individual expenses, amounting to approximately RM748.63 on average.

The situation could have easily spiralled into a bitter feud, but Liu's timely realization saved the day.
