Many recreational areas in Malaysia don’t allow pets. In fact, most public spaces often have signages to indicate that dogs are not allowed there.

The Penang Kini Facebook page recently shared a public complaint against a woman who brought her pet dog to the Gurney Bay Park playground in Penang, where pets are apparently not allowed.

They wrote, “There are still individuals who do not understand or pretend not to understand. As Malaysians who live in harmony, you must know that in public places or spaces for shared usage, it is forbidden to bring pets such as dogs because it will cause a disturbance.”

There were such incidents in the past when the park was newly opened and there were no signages yet. However, that’s no longer the case.

“If it was before this, (bringing pets there) was a hot issue because (the park) was still newly opened and there were no prohibition signs. But now, prohibition signs disallowing pets have been placed at every entrance,”

“This incident may have happened because of weak enforcement by the responsible parties, especially considering that there are no monitoring activities on weekends and peak hours. Because, in the 3 hours of them being there, no authorities were to be seen,” they added.

It is always important to check if a public space allows pets before bringing your furry counterparts there.
