Woman charged after knife incident at Rain Rave festival, ordered for psychiatric evaluation

A 28-YEAR-OLD woman has been charged in the Sessions Court after allegedly brandishing a knife during the final night of the Rain Rave Water Music Festival in Bukit Bintang, an incident that sparked panic among festival-goers and was widely circulated on social media.

The accused, identified as Shannon Anne-Ooi, faces a charge under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act for allegedly carrying an offensive weapon in a public place.

If convicted, the offence carries a jail term of between five and 10 years, as well as whipping.

Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said the court had also ordered the accused to undergo a psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Bahagia in Ulu Kinta, Perak, following concerns over her mental health.

She is currently being remanded at Kajang Prison, with the court fixing June 4 for the next case mention.

A video of the incident, which went viral online, showed several members of the public restraining the woman at the festival site.

In the footage, a man can be seen holding her arm in an attempt to prevent her from wielding the knife before police officers arrived and took her into custody.

The incident occurred during the closing night of the festival in the busy Bukit Bintang entertainment district, an area typically crowded with revellers and tourists. - May 4, 2026
