KOTA KINABALU: A 30-year-old woman was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting her 68-year-old father with firewood.
The accused, Maureen Moinin, pleaded not guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to Moinin Lingkis using a dangerous weapon at 1pm on March 1 in a house at Kampung Moyog, Penampang.
She was charged under Section 324, read with Section 326A of the Penal Code, which provides a maximum penalty of ten years imprisonment, a fine, whipping, or any combination of these punishments, with enhanced penalties for certain victims.
Prosecution officer Inspector Yusdi Basri proposed bail at RM5,000, while Duty Counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, representing the accused, requested a lower amount.
The court set April 22 for pre-trial case management and granted bail at RM1,500 with two sureties.
