Woman died before she could see care home rapist brought to justice

  • Robert Wilson, a 53-year-old former care worker, has been jailed for eight years for sexually assaulting two vulnerable women in East Lothian.
  • Wilson attacked Yvonne Carnie, 68, at a residential home on various occasions between August 2022 and February 2023; Ms Carnie died in 2025 before her attacker was brought to justice.
  • He was also convicted of raping another woman in Tranent, East Lothian, in 2013, with both convictions secured at the High Court in Edinburgh.
  • Ms Carnie's family stated that Wilson showed "calculated, predatory disregard" and stole the dignity from her final years, expressing pride in her courage that helped stop the abuse.
  • Prosecutors and police highlighted Wilson's manipulative and sexually abusive pattern, noting he targeted vulnerable women by exploiting trust and his position of power.
