A WOMAN was fined RM11,800 by the Magistrate's Court in Ipoh after pleading guilty to three separate charges related to a rampage at a mamak restaurant last month.
The accused, Nurfarahanim Soaid, 29, made the plea before Magistrates Anis Hanini Abdullah and Mohd Harith Mohd Mazlan in separate courtrooms.
For the first charge, the accused admitted to intentionally injuring Mohamed Hussain Mubarakali by slapping and punching the victim.
The offence was under Section 323 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail sentence of a year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Amal Aziemah Abd Kohar, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
In her appeal, Nurfarahanim stated that she has three children, has been suffering from bipolar disorder since 2021 and has had a Disabled Person (OKU) card since 2018.
The court then imposed a fine of RM1,800 or two months' imprisonment, if she fails to pay the fine.
For the second charge in a separate court, the accused pleaded guilty to injuring a man using a fork.
The offence was under Section 324 of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of up to 10 years, a fine, whipping or both.
Meanwhile, for the third charge, the accused also admitted to committing mischief by breaking three pieces of glass from the restaurant's food display.
The charge was under Section 427 of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of between one and five years, a fine or both.
All the offences were committed at the SK Naina Restaurant, Jalan Tawas Baru 1, Taman Tasek Damai, at 6.26 am, January 28.
The prosecution for the second and third charges was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor, S. Nishaalini, while the accused was represented by lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation, Robert S. Gnanarajan.
The prosecution requested a proportionate sentence given that the accused acted aggressively in a public place and used a fork as a weapon to injure the victim.
In addition, the accused also used a meat cleaver to break the restaurant's protective glass, causing an estimated loss of RM45,000, including repair and cleaning costs.
In the appeal, the defence requested a minimum sentence on the grounds that the accused was a single mother who was receiving treatment for bipolar disorder and only earned around RM500 a month as a kuih seller.
The court then imposed a fine of RM6,000 for the second charge with a 12-month prison sentence if she failed to pay and a fine of RM4,000 for the third charge with a 10-month prison sentence if she defaulted. – February 4, 2026
