Woman found dead in Penampang apartment

PENAMPANG: A 42-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment along Jalan Penampang Lama on Tuesday (June 30) night, with police finding no evidence of foul play.

Penampang District Police Chief Supt Sammy Newton said the district police headquarters received a report on the incident at 10pm.

He said the victim, who worked as a hairdresser, was living alone at the apartment.

“Preliminary investigation showed the victim’s employer went to her residence after failing to contact her since the morning of June 30.

“According to the employer, the victim took leave on June 29 and was expected to return to work on June 30,” he said, adding the employer found the victim’s apartment door was locked and received no response from inside.

Police, with the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), forced open the apartment door and found the victim deceased inside.

Sammy said crime scene investigators from the Penampang district police headquarters, together with the D10 Forensic Team from the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters, conducted a forensic examination of the apartment.

“Initial findings found no elements of crime or foul play that could be linked to the incident.

“Hence, the case has been classified as a Sudden Death Report (SDR) pending the outcome of the post-mortem examination and further investigations,” he said.

Sammy urged the public to refrain from speculating on the incident so as not to interfere with police investigations.

He also advised the public not to share photographs or videos related to the incident out of respect for the victim’s family and next of kin.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact investigating officer Inspector Ahmad Amir Fitri Ab. Rahman at 016-4492215 or the Penampang district police headquarters at 088-712222.
