Woman From China Places Pet Dog Inside Trolley At Perak Store, Sparks Online Fury
A foreign woman caused an uproar among Malaysians after she was seen putting her pet dog inside a trolley at a baby store in Teluk Intan, Perak.

The matter was brought to light in a Facebook post, where a female shopper wrote that she and another Malay couple informed staff about it but received a “disappointing” response.

“When we asked the staff over why a dog was allowed inside the shop and whether they weren’t aware of it, they simply said they didn’t know and shook their heads.”

The woman wrote that there were many Muslim customers who frequent the shop and may have no idea that a dog had been placed in one of the trolleys.

“If the shop management doesn’t care about this issue, then put up a sign at the entrance saying: ‘Muslims aren’t allowed to enter because we allow dogs in shopping trolleys’,” she fumed.

The woman also demanded that the store issue a public apology to Muslim customers over the matter.

In the comment section, it triggered a storm of angry reactions from netizens, who called for Malaysians to boycott the store.

Store clarifies

When contacted by Sin Chew Daily, the store’s person-in-charge shed more light on what transpired.

According to the person-in-charge, the woman in the viral photo was a Chinese national and not a local Chinese, adding that the latter wouldn’t have done so as they were aware of religious sensitivities.

“Our staff asked the customer to take the dog out of the store as soon as they noticed the situation, but she remained inside for a while.

After being informed by the staff, I approached her and explained the situation. Once she understood, she cooperated and left the premises with the dog.”

The person-in-charge also said the store sought guidance from the Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Melayu Perak (MAIPk) Hilir Perak regarding cleaning procedures.

As such, the store will be closed today for cleaning before it’s opened to the public again.
