A 41-year-old woman found herself at the centre of serious legal proceedings in Shah Alam after being charged with possessing hundreds of Malaysian passports and multiple identity cards, including a forged MyKad.

The accused, a housewife identified as N Paarvathy, denied all three charges when they were read before Magistrate Muhammad Syafiq Sulaiman in the Magistrates’ Court on Thursday. The charges stem from a late-night discovery made at a residential property in Taman Puchong Hartamas, where authorities reportedly uncovered 205 Malaysian passports in her possession.

Additional charges involved the possession of three MyKad belonging to individuals aged 19, 21, and 31, as well as one falsified identification card bearing the name of a 24-year-old male. These acts are said to contravene Regulations 25(1)(o) and 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990. If found guilty, she may face penalties that include up to three years of imprisonment, a fine not exceeding RM20,000, or both.

All alleged offences occurred on the early morning of July 11, around 12:10am.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution, led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Norhidayah Abdullah Sani, proposed bail be set at RM30,000 and requested the accused be required to report monthly to the nearest police station.

However, the defence counsel, Yogamani M Marappan, sought leniency in the bail amount. The lawyer emphasized that the woman is unemployed, dependent on her husband's earnings, and has no known association with any of the identity card holders involved in the case. It was also highlighted that she had shown full cooperation during the investigation, including enduring a 28-day remand.

Taking both submissions into account, the magistrate set bail at RM15,000 for all charges combined. The case has been scheduled for mention on September 22, allowing time for further investigation and preparation by both the prosecution and defence.

The case has raised serious questions regarding the source and intended use of the passports and ID cards, as authorities continue probing what appears to be a wider identity-related offence.
