TAWAU: A 32-year-old local woman was arrested at 4pm on Saturday for allegedly being involved in a theft case at a handicraft training centre in Fajar town, resulting in a loss of RM29,000.

District police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect was apprehended in the town area following intelligence work by the Strike Team of Tawau Police Station.

Advertisement"The team also seized a sewing machine reported missing by the training centre management on April 5, 2022," he said.

According to the report, the complainant arrived at the workplace to find the gate open, the office door lock tampered with, and the office in disarray, with items such as sewing machines, a water filter, and RM2,300 in cash missing.

Read more Jasmin added that the woman is being remanded to assist investigations under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking with intent to steal, which carries a penalty of up to 14 years imprisonment and may include a fine or whipping upon conviction.
