
TAWAU: A woman in her 40s injured her leg while her husband, 56, is feared missing after their boat sank in the waters off Sg Melayu, here, Friday morning.
Tawau Maritime Zone Director Maritime Captain Shahrizan Raman said the woman was rescued by fishermen in the area and taken to the Tawau Hospital for treatment.
He said the incident happened after the husband and wife, from Kg Titingan, boarded a jongkong (boat) carrying a load of empty bottles.
“The boat is said to have hit something, causing it to lose control and the two victims thrown into the sea.

Read more “The injured woman was rescued by fishermen around the area, while her husband has not been found yet.” According to Shahrizan, the Tawau Maritime Zone Operations Centre deployed Halilintar 7 to conduct a search and rescue (SAR) operation at 11.15am after receiving a report on the incident.
A Tawau Fire and Rescue team was also at the location at 12.50pm.
A police report on the incident has been lodged by the victim’s family.
