A 59-year-old woman was arrested yesterday (4 May) after being caught refuelling with subsidised petrol (BUDI95) at a service station in Tumpat, Kelantan.

According to Aswadi Jaafar, the Deputy Director of the Kelantan Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), the woman was detained during the ‘Ops Tiris 4.0’ Bersepadu operation. She was apprehended by KPDN officers in Chabang Empat at approximately 7:05 AM.

Modified vehicle discovered during operation

Aswadi added that the operation was conducted in collaboration with the Marine Police Force after officers observed the woman refuelling multiple times.

Upon further inspection of her vehicle, a Perodua Kenari, it was discovered that the car had been modified with a custom-built tank designed to store additional petrol.

“We also seized approximately 50 litres of petrol that had been siphoned from the modified tank. The total value of the seizure, including the vehicle and the fuel, is estimated to be more than RM5,000,” he stated.

Stern warning issued over controlled goods

The case is currently being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, which concerns the possession of controlled goods with the intent to commit an offence.

“KPDN Kelantan has issued a stern warning that enforcement efforts will be intensified to curb the misuse of subsidised controlled goods, particularly in border areas,” Aswadi said.
