A WOMAN in her 20s was injured in a suspected acid attack by her boyfriend after she tried to end their relationship in an incident in Petaling Jaya on Tuesday.

The victim, who works at an eatery, suffered burn injuries and was taken to University Malaya Medical Centre for treatment.

Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat confirmed that police had received a report on the incident and were investigating.

He said both the victim and suspect were foreign nationals and had been in a relationship.

"The incident is believed to have stemmed from relationship problems after the victim wanted to end her relationship with the suspect.

"She is receiving treatment at the University Malaya Medical Centre for burn injuries believed to have been caused by a suspected acid-based liquid," he said in a statement today.

Shamsudin said the suspect allegedly fled after the incident and police were conducting efforts to track him down.
