TAWAU: A 35-year-old woman, Nurima Juli, was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Tawau High Court on Monday after pleading guilty to causing the death of her ex-husband, e-hailing driver Nurman Bakaratu, in 2023.
Justice Datuk Dr. Lim Hock Leng ordered the sentence to begin from April 26, 2024. Nurima admitted to fatally stabbing the 61-year-old at an oil palm plantation near Jalan Apas Batu 5 on the night of January 13, 2023.
The case previously made headlines when eight individuals, including ESSCOM officers and a civilian, were charged with murder. They were acquitted in January 2024 after Nurima, the prosecution’s key witness, confessed to the killing during the trial.
