Kota Kinabalu: A 55-year-old woman who went to the Sabah National Registration Department (NRD) to replace her identity card ended up being arrested after the card was found to be fake.
Jamilah Akrim was sentenced to four months’ jail by Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus after pleading guilty to possessing the fake identity card at the Sabah NRD Identity Card Division at about 11.30am on Sept 10.
The court also ordered Jamilah to be referred to the Immigration Department for further action upon completing her sentence.
The court heard that Jamilah presented the card when seeking a replacement, but checks by NRD officers found it did not exist in the department’s records, while her thumbprints also did not match any records in the system.
She was charged under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007), which carries up to three years’ jail or a fine of up to RM20,000, or both, upon conviction.
