A WOMAN jumped from a moving car because she was afraid of being beaten by her husband while passing through a traffic light at an intersection near the Sungai Petani courthouse yesterday.

The 19-second video of the incident shows a woman opening the passenger door before jumping onto the road and being chased by a man.

The incident was recorded by a road user who happened to be passing by before it went viral on social media.

Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said that as soon as the video went viral, they received a police report from a woman who admitted that the incident involved her and her husband.

“The woman claimed that she was forced into her husband’s car when they met at a petrol station in Bedong at 6pm yesterday.

“It was to discuss their marital problems. The woman claimed that they had not lived together for a month because she could not stand her husband’s actions, who allegedly often beat her,” he said.

The couple was said to have married in October last year.

According to Hanyan, police then arrested the woman’s husband at a house in the district at 8.40pm the same day.

“The 31-year-old man, who is unemployed, has been remanded for two days to assist investigations under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994,” he said. - November 13, 2025
