
A FATAL accident in George Townn has left one woman dead and seven others critically injured after the factory van they were travelling in overturned on Jalan Mount Erskine in the early hours of the morning.
Six of the seriously injured victims are women aged between 21 and 52, while the male driver of the van also sustained severe injuries.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of the Operations and Rescue Division John Sagun Francis said emergency services received the distress call at 5.59 am and promptly dispatched teams to the scene.
“Upon arrival, our firefighters faced a tense situation as four of the eight passengers were trapped within the mangled vehicle. Teams from the Bagan Jermal Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by personnel from Lebuh Pantai Station, employed specialised equipment to extricate the victims. All trapped passengers were successfully freed by 7.17 am,” he stated.
One of the victims succumbed to her injuries and was transported to Penang Hospital for post-mortem examination, while the remaining seven seriously injured passengers were taken to the same facility for urgent medical treatment. - December 1, 2025
