A WOMAN who charged at the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, during the state-level National Day celebrations on Sunday has been remanded for three days to assist in police investigations.
The 41-year-old suspect was brought before Magistrate Wardah Nabilah Mohd Abd Wahab at the Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD), where the remand order was granted from Monday until Wednesday.
The incident occurred at approximately 8.20am as the state anthem was being played. Dressed in all black, the woman was seen sprinting towards Sultan Nazrin, who was standing on the main stage observing formal proceedings.
“The remand is to allow investigation under Section 325/511 of the Penal Code for attempted grievous hurt,” said Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad.
The suspect, in handcuffs and black attire, was escorted to the police headquarters around 10.15am, and the remand proceedings concluded within the hour.
Initial checks revealed that the woman has a previous criminal record related to drug offences and is under psychiatric care, with a history of mental health treatment.
The dramatic breach of protocol occurred as Sultan Nazrin stood at attention to honour the state anthem. The suspect's intent remains under investigation, with security at such high-profile events now likely to face renewed scrutiny. - Sept 1, 2025
