RANAU: A 50-year-old woman escaped serious injury after the four-wheel drive vehicle she was driving lost control and plunged into a 40-metre ravine along Jalan Ranau-Tambunan near Kampung Mumpait here on Friday evening.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Station chief Rantey Fred said the department received a call via the station line at 6.09pm and dispatched seven personnel to the scene, located about 23 kilometres from the station.

He said firefighters found a Toyota Hilux that had skidded and fallen into a ravine approximately 40 metres deep, with the female driver still inside the vehicle but reportedly uninjured and unable to exit on her own.

The victim was extricated and taken to a safe area before being handed over to Emergency Medical Rescue Services personnel for further examination at Ranau Hospital, and the operation was concluded at 7pm.
