Woman who killed two in 100mph crash has sentence increased

  • Liberty Mitchell, 21, caused a fatal pile-up on 2 December 2022 near Aldsworth, Gloucestershire, while driving at nearly 100mph on the wrong side of the road.
  • The crash resulted in the deaths of taxi driver Octavian Codreanu and passenger Moyra Whelan, with six other people sustaining injuries, three of them seriously.
  • Mitchell pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing death whilst uninsured, and three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
  • She was initially sentenced to six years and eight months' imprisonment at Gloucester Crown Court.
  • Following a referral by Attorney General Ellie Reeves KC, the Court of Appeal increased Mitchell's sentence by two years and seven months, bringing her total imprisonment to nine years and three months.
