In a significant step towards improving women’s healthcare, a dedicated women’s clinic has been launched at Mukand Lal District Civil Hospital in Yamunanagar under the ‘Swasth Nari Samriddh Parivar’ campaign. The initiative aims to provide specialised medical facilities to women, including diagnosis, counselling and screening for various diseases ranging from hypertension and diabetes to breast and cervical cancer.
The clinic has been set up in the E-Block premises of the Civil Hospital and is expected to benefit hundreds of women visiting the hospital daily. Hospital authorities said the clinic has been specially designed to ensure women receive treatment in a comfortable and separate environment without having to wait in long queues with general patients.
According to information, about 2,500 patients visit the Out Patient Department (OPD) of the Civil Hospital every day, of whom nearly 1,400 are women. Due to the heavy rush, women often face inconvenience while consulting doctors or undergoing medical tests. With the opening of the women’s clinic, female patients will now have access to separate facilities for examination and treatment, saving both time and effort.
The clinic will mainly focus on health issues commonly faced by women. Facilities for blood pressure checks, sugar tests and treatment for menstrual disorders, anaemia screening and counselling services have been arranged. In addition, screening for serious diseases such as breast and cervical cancer will also be conducted.
A doctor associated with the project said, “Awareness among women regarding their health remains a major challenge. Many women ignore their health problems due to household responsibilities and lack of awareness, which often leads to serious complications later. The women’s clinic will therefore not only provide treatment but also spread awareness regarding preventive healthcare and early diagnosis.”
Dr Sushila Saini, Principal Medical Officer (additional charge), said that on the directions of Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Dr Sumita Misra and Director General (Health) Dr Manish Bansal, the women’s clinic had been launched with the objective of providing better healthcare facilities to women and adolescent girls. She added that only female staff members and women doctors had been deployed at the clinic so that women patients could openly discuss their health-related problems without hesitation.
“A special arrangement has been made for women patients in the clinic. Women coming for treatment or check-ups will not have to stand in crowded OPD queues. Separate counselling and screening facilities have also been developed to ensure privacy and convenience,” said Dr Saini.
Health experts said diseases such as breast cancer and cervical cancer were becoming increasingly common among women. However, if these diseases were detected at an early stage through regular screening, treatment could become easier and more effective. The clinic will therefore conduct timely screenings and encourage women to undergo regular medical check-ups.
According to information, the ‘Swasth Nari Samriddh Parivar’ campaign launched by the government focuses on improving women’s health and nutrition. The campaign also aims to spread awareness regarding hygiene, balanced diets, preventive healthcare and regular health screening among women.
Doctors at the hospital said awareness sessions would also be organised from time to time at the clinic. Women visiting the hospital would be guided on nutrition, sanitation, maternal health, menstrual hygiene and the prevention of lifestyle diseases.
Residents of the district have welcomed the initiative and termed it a much-needed facility for women. “Separate women-centric healthcare facilities can help improve women’s participation in regular health check-ups and reduce hesitation in discussing sensitive medical issues. Women should take advantage of the new facility and undergo regular screening for common as well as serious illnesses,” said a social worker.
