Women’s group urges stricter laws after spread of AI-generated images of content creator

MANILA, Philippines — A women’s rights group called for stricter policies on artificial intelligence, following the viral AI-generated images of content creator Lans spread online.

In a statement on Monday, Gabriela Women’s Party said the incident highlights the need for a “broader conversation on consent, accountability, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.”

“Whatever the intention of the content creator who spread the images was, AI should not be used to manipulate the image of a person without their consent,” the group stated.

Gabriela is calling for the immediate passage of the expanded Safe Spaces Act, which covers AI and other emerging technologies that propagate gender-based online sexual harassment.
