KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiated the International Women’s Day 2026 celebration (SHWA2026) held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur.

This year’s celebration carries the theme “Memartabat Wanita, Memperkukuh Negara” (Empowering Women, Strengthening the Nation), reflecting the government’s recognition of the vital role women play as drivers of strong families, resilient communities and sustainable national development.

The government emphasized that advancing women’s empowerment is not solely a government responsibility, but requires a whole of nation approach, where various stakeholders work together to ensure women continue to receive the opportunities and support needed to contribute meaningfully to the country’s progress.

During the event, the government also introduced PRISMAnita, an initiative led by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) through the Women Development Department (JPW), aimed at improving access to support services and assistance for women. The initiative functions as a coordinated platform that connects various support services, particularly in addressing family related issues such as domestic violence.

PRISMAnita will operate through the State Women’s Development Office (PPWN) nationwide, following a “No Wrong Door” approach to ensure women can access the right assistance without unnecessary administrative barriers.

In addition, the Prime Minister announced tax incentives for corporations that sponsor contributions to the Housewives’ Social Security Scheme (Lindung Kasih) under PERKESO. Through this mechanism, the National Welfare Foundation (YKN) will act as an intermediary for companies or organizations interested in sponsoring contributions, with eligible sponsors receiving tax deductions under the Income Tax Act 1967.

The government also encouraged greater participation from the private sector, non-governmental organizations and individuals to support the Lindung Kasih scheme, which provides social security protection to housewives facing risks related to domestic responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Hajah Nancy Shukri emphasized that the government continues to strengthen initiatives that support women’s development across multiple areas, including economic participation, leadership, safety and wellbeing.

She added that through the National Women’s Policy and Women’s Development Action Plan 2025 - 2030, the government remains committed to expanding opportunities for women while creating a more inclusive and responsive ecosystem that supports their roles in society and the workforce.

Several prestigious recognitions were also presented during the celebration, including the Anugerah Ikon Wanita 2026, Anugerah Syarikat Mesra Wanita 2026 and Anugerah NGO Pemerkasa Komuniti Wanita 2026, honouring individuals and organizations that have contributed significantly to advancing women’s empowerment and wellbeing.

The event was attended by Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, wife of the Prime Minister, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Lim Hui Ying, senior government officials, foreign representatives and participants from across the country.

The International Women’s Day 2026 celebration not only highlights the achievements and contributions of Malaysian women but also reaffirms the government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring women continue to play an important role in shaping the nation’s future.
