Kota Kinabalu: Construction of the Kota Kinabalu Performing Arts Centre (KKPAC) at the Wisma Budaya site is set to begin, said State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin.
Speaking at a briefing here on Thursday, Jafry said the project will serve as a dedicated hub to nurture local talent, showcase cultural heritage, and support the growth of Sabah’s creative industry.
The proposed complex will feature a performance auditorium, black box theatre, dance studios, and rehearsal spaces to accommodate diverse artistic disciplines and generate revenue for the Sabah Cultural Board (LKNS).
Meanwhile, a proposed administrative building to house the ministry and its statutory bodies—including Sabah Parks, the Sabah Tourism Board, and LKNS—at the same location is now in its final planning stage.
Jafry added that the 30-month administrative project, envisaged to be funded by Sabah Parks and the Sabah Tourism Board, will consolidate operations under one roof and replace rented premises currently used by LKNS in Likas.
