Kota Kinabalu: Penampang MP Datuk Ewon Benedick said construction of the Class 3 Health Clinic (KK3) in Penampang is expected to begin next year.
He said the Public Works Department (JKR) would implement the procurement process for the project through a tender this year, which is expected to take six months.
Ewon, who is also Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister had met with Health Minister Dr Zaliha Musafa on Saturday to discuss the project.
“I stated to Dr Zaliha that the construction works can start next year, as soon as the tender procurement process is completed this year,” he said in a statement, Sunday.
He stressed it was important to expedite the construction in order to provide health services and outpatient treatment to the Penampang community.
“This project is one of the agendas that I have put under the High Impact Projects Monitoring Committee in Penampang apart from other projects such as the new construction of Tamu Donggongon, Pan Borneo project, school project and flood mitigation.
“I am committed to ensuring that the projects promised to the people of Penampang previously can be implemented this term, including some new projects such as entrepreneurship hubs, among others,” he said.
Also present during the discussion were State Health Director Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin and Malaysian Health Ministry officials.
Dr Zaliha conducted a working visit to several hospitals in Kota Kinabalu and Papar.
