Work starts for Ilocos solar projects

SINGAPORE-BASED Vena Group has recently broken ground two green lane-certified solar projects that will supply clean energy to households in Ilocos Norte, the Board of Investments said on Monday.

The first is the 52-hectare, P3.760-billion, 74.989 megawatt Astra Solar Power project in Currimao. Upon completion, it is expected to generate 142 gigawatt hours of clean energy annually, sufficient to power 120,500 households, while avoiding 95,400 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

The second is the 190-hectare, P20.541 billion Opus Solar Power project in Paoay, which will supply clean energy to 445,000 households to avoid an estimated 444,400 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

“These projects reflect the BOI’s continued efforts to translate approved investments to operational projects by accelerating coordination, improving regulatory responsiveness, and supporting investors from pre-development to implementation,” BOI Investment Assistance Center executive director Bobby Fondevilla said.

The BOI’s One-Stop Action Center for Strategic Investments (Osacsi) has worked with project proponents, national government agencies, local government units, and regulatory bodies to fast-track permitting, align inter-agency requirements, and address processing bottlenecks.

It has enabled the advancement of both projects under Executive Order 18, which established the Green Lane for Strategic Investments program to expedite, streamline, and automate the processing of permits and licenses for new businesses in the country.

The Vena Group — through its renewable energy and digital infrastructure affiliates, Vena Energy and Vena Nexus — delivers integrated, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions that enable the Asia-Pacific region’s transition to a low-carbon, AI-driven future.

As of April 30, the firm has secured 15 green lane-certified projects with a combined project cost exceeding P240 billion, the BOI said.
