RANAU: Work is underway to install a temporary box culvert on the road near River Side Mart, here, which collapsed recently due to flooding.

A survey at the location found that the contractor, Lintasan Resources Sdn Bhd, has been working hard to complete the road since January 6. As many as 20 “box culverts” will be installed along the cut-off route and will take approximately 14 days to complete.

The repair work has reached more than 30 per cent and expected to be completed earlier than the set time depending on the weather condition.

Earlier, Sabah Public Works Department (JKR) Director Arman Abd Muin said to overcome the recurring problem of broken roads at the location, a “bailey bridge” would be installed as a “temporary diversion.”

“JKR Sabah has informed and extended the proposal to the federal Ministry of Public Works today as the owner of the federal road,” said Arman when met at the scene of the incident last Thursday.

In the Jan 4 incident, the culvert at Km 109.378, Jalan Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan, collapsed and the road was cut off due to continuous heavy rain.

Following the incident, the route was closed for all types of vehicles, making Jalan Sinarut Baru- Tagudon Baru as well as the SIB church shortcut as alternative routes.
