Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor called on Sabah’s youths to work together to build the State in accordance with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) direction.

He also called on members of the Sabah Youth Assembly, who were elected to represent the 73 state legislative constituencies, to continue supporting him and his colleagues in making Sabah more advanced and affluent.

Hajiji said the Government he heads will continue to do what is best for the State and the people of Sabah.

“We are all accountable for Sabah, our cherished homeland. The State will not progress as long as there are citizens left out in the development carried out,” he said at the closing of the two-day first Sabah Youth Assembly sitting at the State Legislative Assembly Hall.

It was attended by 79 Sabah Youth Assembly members, including six Nominated Youth Assemblymen.

During the sitting, nine motions on various topics were debated. The concerns were driven by the interests of the State’s citizens, particularly the younger generation.

The motions debated were acknowledged by Hajiji who said the State Government values all views, thoughts and suggestions.

“I am aware of the various issues brought up during the debate. All proposals that are prioritised will be carefully considered by the State Government, and they will either be brought up during the State Assembly sitting or discussed at the State Cabinet level,” he said.

He said every issue today’s young encounter is taken seriously by the State Government, particularly the quality of life following the Covid-19 pandemic that has affected every Sabahan.

In addition to making sure young people pay close attention to and understand their responsibilities towards the future development of the State and the nation, Hajiji hopes the Youth Council’s existence will assist the younger generation in gaining a variety of knowledge and understanding their rights as voters and mandate holders in determining the leadership of the State and the nation.

According to him, the Sabah Youth Assembly members have a great deal of responsibility for the 2023–2024 session, including developing a young leadership pipeline with the knowledge, skills and vision to work together to advance the State and the country.

He said the Sabah Youth and Sports Ministry, along with the Sabah Youth Council and the Youth and Sports Department, were behind the establishment of the Sabah Youth Assembly.

The Sabah Youth Leadership Incubator programme, which provides a platform for young people to receive training and guidance to enhance their potential as competent and authoritative youths to success in the SMJ’s mission, is in line with the roles and functions of the Sabah Youth and Sports Ministry, he said.
