A Chinese court ruled a company unlawfully fired an employee who declined to perform at the annual dinner, ordering compensation for wrongful termination.
RECENTLY, an employee in China was allegedly terminated from his job after declining to perform during his company’s annual dinner.
The worker, identified as Xiaoming, clarified that he intended to attend the dinner but was unable to perform as he was tied up with work.
Furthermore, management had stated that attendance was not compulsory, according to Chinese portal Sina News.
Despite this, Xiaoming found himself dismissed from his position months after the annual dinner.
It was later reported that the reason for his dismissal stemmed from the employer’s perceived “loss of face” after Xiaoming declined to perform.
When Xiaoming explained that he could not perform due to work commitments, his boss reportedly viewed it as “disobedience”, expecting the employee to comply regardless.
The case was taken to court, where the judge ruled that the company had unlawfully terminated Xiaoming and ordered it to provide him with financial compensation.
