Malaysians working in Singapore is a very normal thing nowadays. But, there are many people that has always been considering on whether or not to leave their jobs here and work there? Is it worth it? That is the main question on their mind.
Based on my personal experience, 2 years ago, I too decided that it would be the right decision to move to Singapore and work. I got all my paper work done, applied for the job, work permit approved and I left to start working. However, the work lifestyle was not the way I expected which made me leave the job within a month. Sad but true.
Yes, the currency exchange rate is mind blowing. With that amount of money, Malaysians can afford a better life ahead for them and their family. But, the working hours, the homesickness, the loneliness , the fear of getting the wrong friends. The salary definitely comes with many cautionary factors.
In addition to that, the housing rental market price in Singapore is ridiculously expensive for those who are coming there to earn a living. And having to stay in Johor, which is the nearest Malaysian state is a hassle on its own. The massive traffic jam, the time to travel from Johor to Singapore is really bad, and to travel daily, is something I would never consider.
The food pricing in Singapore is also another concern. Some rental places allows their tenant to cook, which saves them a lot of money. However, many owners do not allow that. And to be able to afford food everyday, while trying to save as much as possible to pay off all commitments is very difficult.
It takes a strong heart and will power for Malaysians to work in Singapore. There are still so many Malaysians working in Singapore, and thriving hard to bring their families to a better state. Huge respect for them.
