Kota Kinabalu: A 37-year-old workshop owner was charged with causing the death of another man.

Zazlieandy Zainuddin pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus, to the charge against him on Friday.

He is accused of committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder of Rahmat Abdullah, 23, between 4.30am and 5.20am on July 27 this year at Lorong Rumah Sewa Jaffrin in Kg Pasir Puteh, Putatan.

The offence under Section 304 (a) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 30 years and liability of a fine, upon conviction.

Read more The court set Sept 13 for case management and Zazlieandy was ordered remanded further pending the date.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Jessica Ombou Kakayun appeared for the prosecution while counsel Safrin Salleh defended Zazlieandy.

In another case, a 43-year-old man charged with having a live pangolin, which is a protected animal, without permit, will know on Sept 8 whether he has to answer the case.

Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan set the date for Victor Lembertius when the prosecution closed its case after calling five witnesses.

The court also fixed Aug 25 this year for submissions from both parties.

Victor is accused of having the Malayan pangolin (Manis Javanica) without valid authorisation under the Law Enforcement of the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997.

The charge stated that pangolin is a fully-protected animal listed under Schedule 1, Part 1, of Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997.

The offence allegedly took place at 4.30pm on Nov 16, 2020 at the KM35.5 Jalan Kimanis Keningau, Papar.

The offence under Section 41(2) of the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997 and punishable under Section 41(4) of the same Enactment, carries a fine of between RM50,000 and RM250,000 or jail term of between one year and five years, or both, on conviction.

Prosecuting Officer Abdul Karim Dakog of the Wildlife Department prosecuted while Victor was not represented.
