Indonesia’s capital city Jakarta was last month named the world’s most polluted city by IQAir, a Swiss air quality technology company, registering unhealthy air pollution levels nearly every day.

The city has since taken several measures to combat air pollution, most recently by utilising water mist generators throughout Jakarta.

As reported by Antara News, as of 29 September, 109 tall buildings in the Indonesian capital, including the City Hall, have installed 125 water mist generators.

Furthermore, 28 more water mist units are in the process of installation as an effort to improve air quality according to Ani Ruspitawati, the spokesperson for the Jakarta Air Pollution Control Task Force.

Besides that, the Jakarta provincial government has also intensified the watering of protocol roads and increased the installation of water mist generators in an effort to combat the high air pollution level.

Specifically, protocol roads had been watered at 290 locations across Jakarta by the city’s Fire and Rescue Service as of 28 September.

In the meantime, the Jakarta Health Service has urged the public to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and to wear either a KN95 or KF94 mask while outside.
