Recently, a Malaysian doctor, Dr Samham shared via his TikTok account the repercussions of watching too much pornography. If you find yourself having difficulties getting your eyes off the screen when it comes to obscene materials, here’s what you should know.

  • Shrinking of your brain

Surprisingly (and unexpectedly), pornography addiction has a lot to do with your brain. Dr Samhan revealed that the addiction will shrink the frontal part of your brain, which is known as the ventral tegmental area (VTA).

VTA is best known for the major role it plays in motivation, reward and addiction. The changes in the chemicals of the neurotransmitter will also lead to damage to the nerves.

  • Goodbye, passion

Contrary to popular belief, pornography addiction actually leads to lack of passion during intimacy with your partner.

  • Fading memories & disturbing emotions

When the doctor said deteriorating memories, it does not mean Alzheimer’s but simply being forgetful, even when it comes to a simple routine.

It can be forgetting what you had in mind when you were just thinking about it a few minutes ago.

In the meantime, you’re also likely to get irritated and angry easily as your emotional state can be disturbed at times.

  • Cocaine, worse than that

Last but not least, and shockingly, Dr Samhan also revealed that pornography addiction may sound common, but the consequences can be worse than cocaine addiction.

This is due to the damage that the addiction will cause to the brain.

Fortunately, Dr Samhan took the opportunity to share tips to avoid being addicted to pornography.

Try to avoid spending most of your time alone and start hanging out with people you like. Strike up conversation to distract yourself and through the conversation, who knows you might discover a new hobby?

Dr Samhan also suggested exercising to avoid having the urge to masturbate frequently.

If you’re suffering from pornography addiction, there’s nothing to be ashamed of as many are silently coping with the addiction. Seek help or try out the steps mentioned above.
