Writer Bonnie Greer remembered for ‘warmth and humour’ after death at 77

  • Acclaimed British-American playwright, novelist, and commentator Bonnie Greer has died at the age of 77 following a brief illness.
  • Her death was confirmed by her husband, David Hutchins, who said she would be remembered for her “warmth, humour, generosity and extraordinary ability to bring people together”.
  • Born in Chicago in 1948, Greer moved to the UK in 1986 and went on to serve on the boards of prestigious institutions such as the British Museum and the Royal Opera House.
  • She became a familiar face to British television audiences through her regular panellist appearances on programmes including Question Time and Newsnight Review.
  • Greer was awarded an OBE in 2010 for services to the arts and authored several successful novels, plays, and the memoir Obama Music.
