Kuala Lumpur: The United States has banned imports of rubber gloves produced by Malaysia-based WRP Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd over alleged use of forced labour, The Edge reported.
The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued a Withhold Release Order (WRO), citing information indicating that the products were manufactured wholly or partly using forced labour.
Under US law, goods produced using forced labour, including indentured or child labour, are prohibited from entering the country, and shipments may be detained at ports.
CBP said importers may re-export the detained goods or provide evidence to demonstrate compliance with labour regulations.
At the time of reporting, WRP had not issued a response to the allegations, while the ban forms part of broader enforcement actions targeting suspected labour abuses globally.
