Strong quake in New Britain region, Papua New Guinea

KUALA LUMPUR: A magnitude 7.4 earthquake occurred in the New Britain Region, Papua New Guinea at 8.58pm today.

The Malaysia Meteorological Department in a statement here said the epicentre was 35km northeast of Kokopo, Papua New Guinea and the temblor occurred at a depth of 10km.

There was no tsunami threat to Malaysia, it added. — Bernama
