  • Sean Garner has been jailed for 12 years after his XL bully dog, Toretto, fatally attacked 84-year-old John McColl in Warrington last year.
  • Mr McColl suffered "catastrophic facial injuries" during the 45-minute attack on Garner's driveway, dying from his injuries approximately a month later.
  • The court heard that the 7st 4lb dog, which was later shot by armed police, had begun to eat Mr McColl alive during the incident.
  • Garner was found guilty of being the owner of a dog which caused injury while dangerously out of control, with the judge noting his "offensive lies" and lack of true remorse.
  • The defendant had moved into the property three weeks prior, owning two XL bullies despite telling the landlord he only had a French bulldog, and had previous convictions for driving and drugs offences.
