XPeng has officially launched the Mona L05 in China, expanding its youth-oriented Mona lineup with a five-seat mid-size crossover available in both pure-electric (BEV) and range-extender (EREV) configurations.
Debuting at a dedicated “Mona World” owners’ event in Guangzhou, the XPeng Mona L05 undercuts its initial pre-sale pricing significantly. While original indicative tags started at RMB 169,800, official guide prices have landed between RMB 144,800 and RMB 176,800 (approx. US$21,300 to US$26,000). This model has been spied in camo being tested on Malaysian roads and could be the first ‘budget’ XPeng product to be offered to Malaysians. Imagine a fully-specced one here, locally-assembled for around RM120,000!

XPeng is offering an immediate RMB 5,000 launch deduction for orders placed before 15 December, effectively dropping the entry barrier down to RMB 139,800 (approx. US$20,600). The promotional bundle also includes zero-gravity front seats, an upgraded 20-speaker audio system, and select exterior metallic paint finishes at no extra charge.

Manufacturing is already underway at scale, with 5,000 units rolling off assembly lines ahead of domestic deliveries commencing on 1 November. Initial global export shipments began on 26 October.

Single-Motor RWD Architecture: Up to 1,310 km Touring Range
Every Mona L05 model utilizes a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor producing 183 kW (249 PS) and 280 Nm of torque.
- Battery Electric (BEV): Standard versions pack a 58.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack, delivering a CLTC range of 560 km in the base Plus trim or 535 km in the Max grade, with 0–100 km/h completed in 7.3 seconds. Long-range variants step up to a 71.1 kWh battery providing 635 km of CLTC range and a 6.8-second century sprint. DC fast charging accomplishes a 30% to 80% replenishment in 15.8 minutes.
- Range-Extender (EREV): Pairs a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol generator with a 37.2 kWh LFP battery and a 42-litre fuel tank. The setup yields 310 km of pure-electric range (CLTC) and a total cruising stamina of 1,310 km. DC fast charging from 30% to 80% takes 10.1 minutes, with fuel consumption rated at 5.26 L/100 km once the battery is depleted.
Dimensions and Practicality
Sitting a full size above the compact Mona L03, the L05 measures 4,870 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,636 mm in height, riding on a generous 2,940 mm wheelbase.

The fastback profile integrates frameless doors and a practical cargo bay offering 702 litres of boot capacity, expanding to 1,913 litres with the rear seats folded. Pure-electric variants gain an additional 102-litre front trunk (frunk) fitted with an integrated drainage plug.

Turing AI Silicon and Robotaxi-Derived Tech
Advanced driver assistance hardware scales across the model hierarchy:
- Turing AI Chips: Range-topping Ultra SE models carry two proprietary in-house Turing AI processors generating 1,500 TOPS of compute power to run XPeng’s uncompressed, end-to-end VLA 2.0 (Vision-Language-Action) foundation model. Max variants feature a single Turing chip running a distilled VLA 2.0 Lite model, retaining over 90% of full-tier autonomous capability.
- Fleet Emergency Relay: A novel safety feature monitors driver alertness during highway navigation. If an operator suffers a medical emergency or becomes unresponsive, the vehicle autonomously guides itself to a stop on the road shoulder, activates hazard signals, and broadcasts a localized SOS distress alert to all XPeng vehicles within a 1-kilometre radius.

The digital cockpit features a massive 17.3-inch central touchscreen, an expansive 26.8-inch Head-Up Display (HUD), and the Master Agent AI voice interface. Passenger comfort is reinforced by an electric zero-gravity front passenger lounger with massage functions and power-reclining rear seats.
Global RHD Strategy
XPeng developed left- and right-hand-drive (RHD) platforms simultaneously from the program’s inception. Validation testing spanned 660 test mules clocking more than 5 million km across 25 nations, enduring temperature extremes from -25°C in Scandinavia to 50°C in the Middle East.

With exports already underway, XPeng plans to market the Mona L05 across 65 countries and regions, including European rollouts scheduled for 2027 and broader expansion into mature RHD markets across Southeast Asia.
