Tottenham chiefs want Ajax playmaker Hakim Ziyech to take Christian Eriksen's place in Mauricio Pochettino's squad.
The Daily Express says a January deal is now under consideration.
Eriksen is set to depart north London in either January or next summer with his contract running down and no extension in prospect.
Tottenham have apparently wasted no time in identifying a replacement for the Dane, with Ziyech top of their list of targets.
The Morocco international has impressed during his time at Ajax and was in fine form last week as they drew 4-4 with Chelsea.
